San Francisco 49ers Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel Ends Interview Discussing Philadelphia Eagles Comments

Deebo Samuel’s recent interview with CBS Sports came to an abrupt halt when he was asked about comments he made about the San Francisco 49ers’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in last season’s NFC Championship game.

At the time, the wide receiver stated that the loss was down in no small part to the fact that Brock Purdy was injured but was not so keen to revisit those claims now, five months later.

The 49ers were soundly beaten by the Eagles in January, losing 7-31 at Lincoln Financial Field, and of course, Philadelphia then went on to lose an enthralling Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35.

One wonders if the Eagles have it in them to repeat the feat and go long into the post-season picture this upcoming season, and if you are a Philadelphia fan looking for the best sportsbook out there to wager with, then these PA sportsbooks are worthy of your attention. 

As for Samuel and the 49ers, it’s pretty clear they just want to move on and get back on track after their stuttering failure in the post-season, which came after a regular season that saw San Francisco rack up 13 wins, a total they have not exceeded since 1992.

Samuel was talking on “The Zach Gelb Show” when the issue of his comments came up;

“I mean, I said what I said,” Samuel stated, clearly keen to move on;

When pressed about the rematch with the Eagles, he continued;

“I don’t know. Just wait until Week 13, 12, whatever week it is, and we’ll show you,” 

This was followed by silence and then a likely PR spokeswoman simply stating that the interview was over.

Host Zach Gelb was not impressed, exclaiming;

“We got hung up on because all we did was ask him about the quarterback situation, and then Philadelphia, and we got hung up on by Deebo Samuel? That’s a joke, an absolute joke. That’s absurd,”

Indeed it does seem a little thin-skinned to run away from an interview that was always likely to go down this route. The comments made by Samuel following the NFC Championship game were not just going to go away, and the 49ers man even repeated the claim in May when he stated that his team;

“Lost because we played with ten people.”

“I ain’t going to keep going on about what could’ve happened and what would’ve happened but yeah,” he added, “it would’ve definitely been a different outcome (if healthy).”

Kyle Shanahan’s team starts the upcoming 2023 NFL season on the 10th of September when they travel to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and in gameweek 13, they once again travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles, by which time it will be apparent as to which, or either, of the teams, is well placed to mount another Super Bowl push.

Ahead of the new season, the 49ers travel to the Allegiant Stadium to take on the Las Vegas Raiders before finishing up with home-field clashes with the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers.
