‘How to become an NBA All-Star volunteer’ is by far the question we’ve been asked most often over the past few years. Also this year, we already received a number of emails with exactly this same question.
In 2012, we decided to start a ‘Volunteer mailing list’ to send a one-time email when the sign-up started for the NBA All-Star Volunteer Program.
The NBA requirements to become a part of the volunteering team were as follows:
- Be 18 years or older.
- Be available to volunteer for a minimum of two shifts
- Sign/accept the Release and Eligibility form.
- Successfully pass a criminal background check. *By registering you agree to submit information necessary to fulfill security protocols.
But surprisingly, since 2015 for the New York All-Star Weekend the NBA did not make any announcement about the volunteer program anymore. It now seems to be like one of NBA’s best kept secret.
As a consequence, we decided to no longer keep the volunteering mailing list. Any information we find about the volunteer program will be published on this page. Right now, we are not aware of any news about any 2020 NBA All-Star volunteer program.
For any person interested in volunteering, we recommend visiting the Volunteermatch website, which provides volunteering opportunities for organizations that run concession stands at the event.
If you should have any information about volunteer opportunities for the 2020 Chicago All-Star Weekend or any of the following events, or if you should have any experience as a volunteer for past events (2018 or 2019), please contact us.
A lot of our NBA All-Star Community would benefit from information about volunteering opportunities and it would be great to share information if possible.

Instructions
First of all you have to sign-up on the volunteer website, including your personal data (name, address, phone, date of birth and social security number) and even your shirt size.
During the user registration, you have to accept a “Release and Eligibility Form”.

Which All-Star events need volunteers?
NBA is searching volunteers only for the All-Star Jam Session. In the last years about 1500-2000 volunteers have taken part in this event.
What are the requirements for being a volunteer?
18 years or older. Attend to an orientation session. Available to help at least two consecutive days. Each shift lasts for five hours. Successfully pass a criminal background check.
What kind of jobs can make a volunteer?
Working with kids, helping with an autograph stage, greeters, run around rebounding basketballs, helping with coaches clinics…
Are there any gifts for the volunteers?
