NBA ALL-STAR GAME RESULTS SINCE 1951
HISTORY OF THE NBA ALL-STAR WEEKEND
- 37 cities, more than 600 players, and 61 coaches in more than 70 years. An idea from publicist Haskell Cohen supported by Celtics founder Walter Brown is still alive nowadays, and only the lockout in 1999 could interrupt it for one year.
- In all these years, East dominated West 37-29. West only could tie the win/loss balance in the 70’s (5-5), and won 12-6 in the new century. For more details, check the full results below.
- Starting on 2018, the NBA revamped the All-Star Game format, putting an end to the East-West showdown. Team LeBron won the first game against Team Stephen.
- The official All-Star festivities were narrowed to the NBA All-Star Game until the 80’s. In 1984, the NBA organized the first Slam Dunk Contest and in 1986 the Three-Point Shootout Contest started. The Legends Games also came back in this decade (after the brief appearances in 1957 and 1964)
- The 90’s launched the Rookies Game, renamed as the Rookie Challenge and later as the Rising Stars Challenge. With the new century, some “minor” contests came out to complete the Saturday program.
