    About the NBA All-Star Weekend

    • The NBA All-Star Game is the highlight of the All-Star Weekend, which has usually been held in the middle of the season in February in a pre-selected, ever-changing city since 1951.
    • In the All-Star Game the best players of the NBA (and other leagues) compete against each other. Due to the lockout, no game took place in 1999.
    • From 1951 to 2017, 66 All-Star Games took place following the old format. The NBA All-Star Game 2017 set a new record for the total number of points. East and West scored a total of 374 points (182:192), surpassing the all-time high of 369 points (196:173) from the previous year.
    • For the All-Star Game 2018 in Los Angeles a new election procedure came into force. For the first time, the match was not between the East and West Team. The new mode allows the players from the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference to mix during team building. The new procedure shall enhance the competitive character of the event.
    • In addition to the All-Star Game, players compete in the Slam Dunk Contest, 3 Point Shootout, and the Skills Challenge. Rookies and sophomores play the Rising Stars Challenge. Other challenges, games, and contests have been introduced and later discontinued.
