- The big surprise happened. In his native city, the little Spud Webb (5-6 feet, 1.70 m) won with a huge performance.
- He made a perfect final with two 50, defeating Dominique Wilkins.
- In this edition, the final was lowered from 3 to 2 dunks for each player.
- The big absent was Michael Jordan, who was injured, and Gerald Wilkins replaced Orlando Woolridge (injured too).
