1997 NBA ALL STAR SLAM DUNK CONTEST CLEVELAND

  • Winner: Kobe Bryant (LAL)
  • 1997 was the last contest, until its resurrection in 2000.
  • Like in Seattle ’87, this edition presented a new star to the world, in this case Kobe Bryant, who won clearly in the final.
  • The tenths disappeared of the scores.

1996 NBA ALL STAR SLAM DUNK CONTEST SAN ANTONIO

  • Winner: Brent Barry (LAC)
  • For the first time in the history of this contest, a white guy won the trophy.
  • The honor went to Brent Barry (Rick Barry’s son), who beat Michael Finley in the final with a dunk from the free throws line.

1994 NBA ALL STAR SLAM DUNK CONTEST MINNEAPOLIS

  • Winner: Isiah Rider (MIN)
  • More rule changes for this edition. In the first round every player had 90 seconds to make as dunks as he wanted.
  • The three best scores passed to the final.
  • In the final, players made two dunks, and the best score won.
  • Isaiah Rider won a contest with overall a rather poor level of slam dunks compared to other years.

  • Winner: Cedric Ceballos (PHO)
  • Larry Johnson commanded in the first rounds, but in the final he missed two dunks.
  • The victory went to Cedric Ceballos, with his great bandage on his eyes.
  • He made a 50, 4 years later than Michael Jordan, who made a 50 in 1988.

  • Winner: Dee Brown (BOS)
  • The great stars in the league began to renounce to the contest, and new players with new ideas filled their place.
  • In this edition, Dee Brown with a dunk where his right arm was in front of his eyes, beat the favorite Shawn Kemp.
  • In the final, players made 3 dunks, but only the best two marks made the score.

  • Winner: Dominique Wilkins (ATL)
  • Finally Dominique Wilkins decided to participate in the contest, and won it.
  • Kenny Smith was the surprise and a good finalist with a great dunk, but the Dominique’s classic Tomahawk made him champion again.
